La salita al Col du Tourmalet da Luz-Saint-Sauveur è considerata la più "selvaggia" e "la più bella" dai due versanti per salire al Col du Tourmalet.
A Luz-St.Sauveur lasciamo il fondovalle con una ripida rampa nell'abitato; in salita moderata si attraversano le case sparse di Esterre, poi ad un incrocio si lascia a destra la breve diramazione per Viella prima di entrare nella valle del torrente Bastan con pendenza impegnativa, ma costante, in mezzo ad ampi boschi. The climb to Col du Tourmalet from Luz-Saint-Sauveur is considered the most "wild" and "most beautiful" from the two ways to ascend the col du Tourmalet.
At Luz-St.Sauveur we leave the valley with a steep ramp-up; the climb is moderate through the scattered houses of Esterre, then at a crossing we left to right the short branch to Viella before entering the Bastan river valley. Read more

Dopo aver attraversato un ponticello si affrontano due tornanti ravvicinati; ad un successivo incrocio si lascia a sinistra la diramazione per Sers, poi si affrontano altri due tornanti ravvicinati, si oltrepassa Cabadur e si lasciano sulla sinistra la Thermes de Barzun. Con altri due tornanti si arriva in forte salita a Barèges, esteso centro turistico che si attraversa sempre in ripida ascesa; si continua tenendosi sul lato meridionale della valle con salita dura fino al prativo pianoro di Lienz, dove si incontra un breve falsopiano. La strada sale poi con forte pendenza, il valico risulta ben visibile di fronte, sulla sinistra si apre invece la vista sul Pic de Midi de Bigorre ed il suo osservatorio. Su strada sempre ripida, si affrontano il penultimo l'ultimo tornante per raggiungere la sommità del colle. Il panorama è grandioso in ogni direzione. After crossing a bridge we face two bends close together; to a next intersection, leave left the branch for Sers, then face another two bends close, pass Cabadur and leave on the left the Thermes de Barzun. With two more bends you get very steep in Barèges, a tourist center that we cross always on steep ascent; It continues holding on the southern side of the valley with hard climb the grassy plateau of Lienz, where we meet a short slight slope. The road then climbs steeply, the pass is clearly visible from the front, on the left there is instead a view of the Pic de Midi de Bigorre and its observatory.
